Discount Camping Equipment
Discount Equipment Available Throughout Season
Probably the best time to buy discount equipment is at or near the end of the season, which varies by location. Depending on the type of equipment you are looking for, many outlets begin offering discount equipment long before the season begins as they make room for newer, more advanced items or to clear out space in a warehouse to start bringing in merchandise for the next season.
By offering discount equipment earlier, they can achieve more sales before they have to start taking the prices below their wholesale cost for the merchants. They also may offer discount equipment as less of a discount earlier in the season on popular equipment of those they believe will still be a wanted item later during the year. For example, chairs, which traditionally carry a larger margin than some other items may be discounted earlier to more sales while still creating a profit.
Many outdoor specialty stores rarely offer discount equipment early in the season and many do not cut prices until the season ends as they have the space for the merchandise throughout the year. Occasionally they may receive an overstock from the manufacturer enabling
them to offer premium quality goods at a price less than their normal cost.
Shop For Bargains While Price Is Lower
For those who know they are going to spend time sometime in the future, it may pay to shop for discount equipment during camping’s off season. In the winter, few people go outdoors to sleep in a tent, and many times retailers will want to get rid of their stock and offer it at ridiculously low prices. Even if you are not planning a winter trip buying discount equipment when it is dirt cheap can save a ton of money in the spring when prices go back to normal.
There are also many discount and outlet stores that offer discount equipment, but some of those carry what is considered factory seconds. There may be a slight flaw in the product for which their lifespan has been reduced. Other may just be a problem with the coloring of a fabric or the metal and while they are expected to perform flawlessly, they do not meet the company’s standards for their top line merchandise.
Buying used merchandise may make some products available much cheaper than even deep discount equipment, but the safety and quality must be examined closely, as there will not usually be a guarantee.
